Marijke Van Buggenhout graduated in 2015 with a Master’s degree in Criminology. She was awarded with the Jeanine Segers prize for her thesis entitled “Deconstructing the Social Concept of Street Children. The Durban Case”. This research was conducted in Durban, South-Africa and aimed at discovering the interpretations and definitions involved in the construction of street children as a social problem. As a member of the research group Crime & Society of the Criminology department, she is currently working as a fulltime researcher on a European Project called PRINTEGER – Promoting Integrity as an Integral Dimension of Excellence in Research ( In this project, she provides criminological insights in the topic of scientific integrity and scientific misconduct or fraud.
