Philippe Kennes is research & teaching assistant at the Department of Criminology since 2009. He gives assistance to professors in their teaching of master-level courses (profile of Penology, Crime & the city) .
His research focuses on (local) prison governance and the role of prison governors. To that end, he conducted in-depth observations and interviews of prison staff and senior management. Furthermore, he is vice-chairman of the University Council and holds several positions in governance boards of the university.Besides his academic activities, he was also appointed as chairman and member of the Prison Monitoring Board of St. Gillis (Brussels) from 2012 until 2016.
