Since February 2010 Sofie De Bus holds a position as Research and Teaching Assistant. She is currently working on a doctoral research in the field of youth criminology under the supervision of Professor Dr. Jenneke Christiaens. The title of her research is ‘Doing gender in the Youth Court: specific problems, specific approach? An empirical analysis of gendered practices at two Flemish Youth Courts’.
The research focuses on the presence, construction and problematisation of girls and boys within the Youth Court by means of analyzing Youth Court case files, observing Youth Court hearings and semi-structured interviewing Youth Court professionals.
She is engaged in RHEA, the Centre of Expertise Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality (VUB) and is a member of the Working Group Gender, Crime & Justice (European Society of Criminology). Her research interests are youth justice practices, gender and intersectionality in the youth court, vulnerable minors in contact with the youth justice system. Furthermore, she operates as Exchange Assistant for the International Exchange Programs (incoming and outgoing criminology students).
