Steve Gorelashvili is a doctoral student who graduated in criminology with great honour. He received the ‘Jeanine Segers’ award with his thesis: ‘The alternative government Yakuza, a society’s creation’.
After graduating, Steve was employed for a period at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel as a researcher for the department of criminology. After this, he started to work for the Belgian federal police department. Today, he is employed as head counsellor in a residential setting for minors in problematic living situations.Furthermore, he works as a certified yoga teacher in the prison of Beveren, Antwerp.
The subject of Steve’s doctoral research is ‘sports, nutrition and health of police employees’. Considering the topic, a first and unique collaboration was set up between the department of criminology and the department of physical education and the department of human biometrics/biomechanics. The promoters of this project are professor Els Enhus, professor Evert Zinzen, professor Patrick Mullie and professor Peter Clarys.
