Veerle Scheirs is assistant professor and postdoctoral researcher at the Criminology Department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel where she is vice-chair of the research group Crime and Society (CRiS), responsible for the coaching of the pre-doctoral researchers and the organisation of internal research seminars. Her main fields of interest are penal decision-making, the implementation of prison sentences and release from prison with a special interest in the study of (failed) release- and reintegration-trajectories.
